Monitoring bee health is a growing interest for both hobbyists and researchers alike since bees hold a special symbiotic relationship with mankind. Being able to collect and analyse sensor data from hives remotely means more time savings and more opportunities. For beekeepers, this means less time and fuel spent travelling to the apiary, and increased honey production. For researchers, this means more opportunities to study and influence behaviour.
Our system measures hive weights and relays this information back to the internet over a low-power wireless mesh network. No cellular modem is required, therefore there are no monthly services fees, and the repeaters can run for years on AA batteries.
